I'm here with Leah -- she is our Graphic designer. Today we are going to talk about what to expect
when you start your website re-design with iBec. So there are several things that are
good to know before we go into our initial kickoff meeting. So Leah, do you want to talk
about maybe some of the questions that we go over in our initial kick-off meeting?
Sure. I always think it's a good idea to have a clear vision of your site that you currently
have. So whether that's knowing there is a big section missing and you really want to
add it, or that you want to scrap the entire thing. Having that first piece of feedback
be based off of your current site is really helpful. The second thing I like to ask is,
"What are the three most important things that you want people to learn about your company
right away?" And I find this really helpful for designing a home page, because people
come to your site and only have a few seconds to get a first impression of you. So really
having a clear understanding of what you want people to know right away is great.
The biggest thing we ask you to come to our first meeting with, is that we ask you to,
"Begin with the end in mind," to get a vision of where you want your website to go: the
goal. So that when someone comes to your website, what do you want them to do? What is their
action item? That is the biggest thing we want you to start thinking about. Leah is
going to show us a couple of examples of what constitutes good feedback and what we are
looking for from you to design your website.
So typically, we'll do two different home page designs and you can see how different
they are. For this one, we did one with just a lot of information, a lot of different side-to-side
scrolling to fit a lot of different features. A blog feed, a lot of photography, to show
that there's a lot going on at this company. The alternative was to do something a little
more simple that really highlighted their work. To use a slideshow that the user can
hover over and look at the different categories of work that they do. In this case, the feedback
that was most helpful was that they wanted to be minimalist. So, we were able to take
elements from both designs and combine them into a third that they were most happy with.
That was literally taking printouts of these and circling something that you liked, crossing
out what you didn't like, and that gave me a really clear direction for what to do on
round two.
Well thank you, Leah, for all of your answers today, and thank you for watching. If you
