we are school that is big enough to serve you
yet small enough to know you we come to see the gifts and the needs of each of our students
and with the committed faculty that we have here all those needs are addressed
spiritually
intellectually, and socially.
Catholic Central is community. We talk about it but
until you're truly here and experience it it's difficult to understand.
Catholic Central as a great community everyone here's
friendly. Really outgoing and friendly people
go to school here. You see a lot of smiles a lot of people Iike
joking throughout the hallways. The way we treat each other, the way we greet
each other,
the way we interact really resounds our Catholic identity,
shows our commitment to upholding the dignity of each person,
and fosters an environment that is very healthy for all of our student learners. There's
difference here in the halls.
There's a joy and a buzz and a business. Everyone's nice,
and you can go to teachers whenever you want they can help you with any
questions you have.
I think what sets our teachers apart is the joy that they feel working with
students. They often become very invested in every student in their class
They're here before and after school, they offer help outside of school
hours, but more than that they look at their students as individuals
not as a classroom with grades,
not as someone to graduate with a certain GPA, but to try to grow the potential.
I feel as if they care personally about your future
you're not just a number, you're a human being. They want you to be successful
and they're here to get you to the next step in life. Here our academic standards are
high
But I think that that faith element is what makes this distinctively
unique, that we can bring our faith in to our class in discussions to our activities
that we do. We try to embody it in our teaching and I think
that earns us respect from the students and they then are
not afraid wear and embrace and grow in their own faith.
There given many opportunities to explore their faith to
strengthen their faith
to know their place in the world and their relationship to others the
responsibilities to
others. They know that their faith is important and witnessing it beyond the
walls of
this school is extremely important for them to do with incorporating the
Catholic values
into the education that can help in our long-run
using our knowledge that we gain at Catholic Central for good will help in the world
building our communities. Now we see that our students do log in a lot of hours
This is documented on their college transcripts, it's not so much
that they're doing it for the college aspect but that they want to give back
to the community. It just makes me feel really good
to just help and it teaches through faith that we can help them continue down
the road, even though we're in high school
That's what they're taking from here; the ability
to be compassionate, and good stewards of anything
that's given to them, whether it's the environment or resources or somebody's
time or talents or attention: that's that greater purpose in our education.
We are situated in the Heartside district. We have a lot of service
organizations right near us, and of course that
is a great opportunity for students to perform service
I like going to school in downtown Grand Rapids just because it's where everyone
works and you feel like you're
a part in the real world it just makes me feel like a part of the city
We're not isolated, we're right in the middle of everything that's going on and what's
happening
there's a place for everyone
and whether you are into sports or whether your niche is
school, or whether it's music or art or maybe you don't know what it is
there is a spot for everyone here. What we seek to do here through our instruction
and constant care and commitment and through our curriculum
is to ensure each student is prepared with the confidence
perseverance and humility to go and lead and serve in the world.
