Governor John Baldacci: "The nightmares of segregation and apartheid have ended, but
injustice remains in each of you. As you move to the next stage in your life, you'll be
called on to stand up for what's right. There are still discriminations and hate, intolerance
for things that make us different, the struggle for equal rights, injustice in gay rights,
immigrants or people of different faiths continue. These battles are sometimes fought in crowds
through protests, but they are won one person at a time, one changed mind at a time. With
every conversation and action you can influence your family, your friends and your community.
Through small, individual acts of kindness, through strength and moral courage, the world
can be changed."
