(bouncy music)
Voiceover: The hollowed grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Dylan: It's the Brickyard.
It was one of the most famous tracks.
They've been racing there for over a hundred years
and it's pretty much the mecca of race car drivers.
(up-tempo music)
It's my first time at Indy and I've seen it on TV
but it's nothing like being there in person
and it was definitely surreal being there on the front stretch.
There's so much history to the track
that to actually be there and witness what goes on,
it's definitely a cool deal.
(up-tempo music)
It was cool seeing those guys
that were so historic in the sport and so idolized.
What do you think I need to do to like prepare myself even more for it?
Clint: Just continue to allow,
you know, align yourself with the right people.
Dylan: This is my first time here so it's pretty crazy.
I've seen them going on the front stretch for the first time.
Jimmie: It's flying.
Dylan: Yeah,
Dylan: It's ridiculous.
Tony: You're racing yourself more than you're racing everybody else.
figuring out how to move around,
how to change your line
and you're constantly doing that throughout a run.
Dylan: I was talking to Tony Stewart
and then Richard Petty comes over.
Richard: How are you?
Dylan: Dylan, nice to meet you.
Richard: I hope you're not taking tips from him.
(laughs)
Dylan: I don't really get starstruck that much
but being around the king and Tony Stewart at the same time,
it was kind of like, oh man.
This is pretty intimidating right now.
Tony: All right, I got to go debrief.
Richard: Okay then.
Tony: See you.
Dylan: Thanks man, appreciate talking.
Richard: [unintelligible].
Dylan: Nice meeting you too.
(slow music)
Dylan: When I look into the future,
I definitely see myself walking across that stage
and hopefully I can do it in a bigger way than those guys do.
Voiceover: 2-time champion, give it up for Tony Stewart.
4-time champion, Jimmie Johnson.
Dylan: Seeing those drivers walk across the stage,
I'm like those are the legends
but hey, I'm going to be kicking your butts one day.
(cars pass by)
Me and Chris, my manager, went into the Indy Museum.
It's all history behind the track.
It was really cool but it's hard to kind of just relax
because I'm so focused on what's coming up next year.
I mean, I don't have fund in.
I don't have a full ride yet.
I don't even know if I'm going to race next year.
Chris: It's kind of ironic about being in a place like this
that a lot of these guys that are champions
and won some of the most prestigious races and events in racing,
they've all had the same struggles that you've had, you know?
Dylan: It's definitely nerve-wracking.
I mean that one call, it could be the difference from me
becoming a NASCAR Sprint Cup driver to me mopping floors.
Chris: And that's at what, 10:45?
11:15, okay.
Dylan: It's really nerve-wracking
waiting for the call to kind of give the go ahead.
Chris: I know it's a little bit stressful right now
but got some decent news from one of our sponsored prospects
but probably going to start having to do a little bit more face to face,
go flying to see some of these people,
find out really what they're intensions are.
(upbeat music)
Dylan: It's tough because I just want to go out there
and I want to make sure I'm doing everything that I can
to actually get the sponsorship dollars.
I don't get how you cook oil together.
I mean, I don't get how the process works.
It's a huge sum of money to go up to the next step.
It's definitely important to keep sponsor relationships tight
and to make sure that they're close and personal.
Off the track, I'm definitely busy
but on the track, once I get into the car,
I'm as focused as can be.
I mean, I got my 4th win of the year at VIR
and it shows that I can just strap into the race car
and then forget about all that other stuff off the track.
We're doing everything that we need to do
but people aren't jumping on there and going, "All right, here you go.
"You're going up to the next level."
I'm like I don't know what else I got to do.
(calm music)
Come on.
(calm music)
It's really hard to be patient.
There's so much riding on this
that if I don't succeed then I'm kind of lost in the [water].
Jen: It's incredibly stressful.
The pressure right now is huge.
I'm trying to step away from it and let his managers handle it
because it's beyond my control now.
Dylan: Good boy.
Sit.
(cellphone ringing)
What's up Chris?
Chris: Hey, Dylan.
I just got a call from Rockstar
and they want to have a conference call here today at around 2:30.
Dylan: Yeah, what's it about?
Next year?
Chris: We're not sure what they want to talk about.
Could be good, could be bad.
Dylan: Okay.
Chris: Hopefully it's a call we've been waiting for.
Dylan: I'm at the lake right now but yeah,
I can definitely be back at 2:30.
Chris: All right, so 2:30 it is.
Dylan: Okay, see you then.
There's definitely a lot of stuff going on in my head.
I mean it could have been the greatest news
or it could have been that they're not sponsoring me at all
and then I'm screwed.
(drum beats)
(phone ringing)
Voiceover: Welcome to Ready-Access by Level 3 Communications.
You will now be placed into conference.
Mike: Dylan, thanks for making time for the call today man.
Dylan: Yeah, absolutely.
Thanks for hopping on it.
Mike: All right.
So you know, the point of this conference call
to be honest it's really just to talk to you about next year
and tell you that one,
it's been a true pleasure to be part of your race program
and to grow with you.
We've had some meetings internally.
I want to let you know that it's time.
It's time that we take this program to the next level
and we want to put the money behind you that you need.
Dylan: The Rockstar call ended up being the best news I could possibly get.
I mean, they let me know that they want to step up to the next level
and it was a huge stress reliever
knowing that I got to stop worrying about getting the funding for next year
and I could actually focus on stepping up to the national level.
Mike: We need you to make it happen.
You're ready for the challenge?
Dylan: Absolutely!
I mean I've been ready for the past 2 years I've been K&N.
I'm ready to go out there and try to put a whip on all those guys.
Mike: That's what I wanted to hear man.
That's it right there.
Dylan: Yeah, absolutely.
I just want to thank you so much for that.
I mean obviously, you guys put a tremendous amount of trust in me
and a lot of faith but I'll definitely make it happen.
I'll do everything that I can to go out there and win races
and I know that we can do it for sure.
Mike: All right man.
It's time to go to the next level.
Dylan: Yeah.
I'm excited.
Thank you guys so much.
Appreciate it.
Mike All right bud.
Dylan: You hear that Ziggy?
Come here.
Come on.
I'm still pumped that after the Rockstar call
I had to tell somebody about it.
I mean, I was the only that knew about it.
Went over to my mom's house to tell her the great news.
(lively music)
I'm so proud of my mom.
She's had to go through a lot.
She had to lose her husband
and this Rockstar call is a huge step for not only me but my mom.
Just to give her a sense of security that I'm taken care of
and that she doesn't really need to worry about it anymore.
I mean, I've got these guys backing me
and I can actually jump up to the next level.
My dreams are actually coming true now.
That's hot.
Jen: What are you doing?
Dylan: Nothing.
I had a conference call with Rockstar.
Jen: You did?
Dylan: Yeah.
Jen: What did they say?
Dylan: Said they're going to sponsor me next year.
Jen: What does that mean?
Dylan: We're good to go.
Jen: Oh my god, that's huge.
Dylan: Yeah.
Jen: Honey, I'm so proud of you.
Dylan: Yeah.
Jen: Oh my god, it's here.
It happen, congratulations.
Good job.
When I look into the future,
I see just this wonderful future for him unfolding and blossoming.
And for me as well, you know?
Some of the pressure from me will be gone.
I can sort of sit back and enjoy my life.
This is everything we've been working for
so it's awesome that he's finally going to make it.
Dylan: These past couple months have been crazy
but I signed up for it.
This is my life and this is my lifestyle.
I live in a fast lifestyle
and I know that I've worked so hard
and my family's worked so hard
and everybody around me has put in so much effort for this
that I know in my heart that I'm going to be able to make it to the top.
Voiceover: Dylan Kwasniewski ran away with the wedded VIR.
Now make it 2 straight.
He takes the checkered flag at Greenville.
This kid is running away with the K&N East title.
He may just be the future of NASCAR.
(men shouting)
