Hello guys My name is Argen from the page Raccon Men's fashion and style
The video i bring to you today is about the story behind the tweed jacket
In my fb page i've uploaded an album about this item so if you haven't seen it yet, i encourage you to do it :)
The origin of the name "tweed" jacket comes from the Tweed river in the north of Scotland
It's a jacket that farmers used to wear to work the lands. Because of the low temperatures they needed to wear thick and rough fabrics.
The main fabric of this jacket is usually wool but it can be made of other rough fabrics
It also has warm and thick lining on the inside and farmers used it to work everyday
But they started to wear it not only for work but also in their free time
What happened then? Aristocracy was influenced by this fact
In 1848 Prince Albert stablished his residency in Balmoral in the North of Scotland
And it drew his attention that farmers used to wear this jacket so He wanted it to include it to his wardrobe
but with a different style: recreational . Especially for hunting and fishing.
What happened then? He influenced other aristocrats who wanted to wear the tweed jacket for hunting and fishing too
In the beginning the colors of the Tweed jackets were really neutral and basics. There was hardly distinction between one another. All they wanted was to camouflage.
From XIX Century this jacket starts to be very fashionable between the aristocrats
So they start to ask their tailors to create Tweed jackets for them with unique patterns and designs
They want to be identified by families, by group of friends or status...They want to distinguish from all the rest
Later middle class is also influenced by the use of this jacket, they also liked it, and they start to wear it giving it another use: sportive
such as climbing, bicycling, playing tennis, cars-race etc
Months later the use of the Tweed jacket doesn't only relate to farmers or aristocrats or the middle class but to the big city as well, when men start to use it during cold days and combine it with different garments
The tweed jacket as I said earlier is made by wool or different thick fabrics and it's usually used during cold days
But if You like the Tweed jacket and You live in a warm place with a hot climate, You could also try to wear it
As long as the textile doesn't exceed the 300 or 400 grams or the lining isn't that thick, ok?
I'd also like to let you know that nowadays there is still in Scotland a really famous Tailor House "Holland and Sherry" where any elegant gentleman asks them to create the perfect tweed jacket or suit for him.
I'll let you the website below in case you want to visit their page and know more about it :)
I hope You've liked the video and You've found it interesting so next time You wear a Tweed jacket or You're close to someone who's wearing one You'll know the story behind!
I'ts Always good to learn new things! ;)
I hope You have a good day and I want to share with You a quote by Mahatma Gandhi:
"An eye for an eye will only make the Whole World Blind"
Have a Great day and...Peace!
