Teaching at Grand Valley is really special
because it's such a core part
of our mission.
Grand Valley has a great integration
of teaching, research, and service.
They're really all parts
of a greater whole,
and I think that really energizes our
teaching because we're able to draw
from our research agenda in areas
that have practical application
in the classroom.
And our service work also kind
of connects the world around us
into the classroom.
Grand Valley students I think really
appreciate that teaching is what we're
really all about,
and I think students really know
when professors are engaged and care
about their progress.
We're really committed towards our
students progress.
And that means playing a role outside
of the classroom.
Personally I believe
in having open access.
I have an open door policy.
It also means being meaningfully engaged
in their work.
The goal of good instruction
at Grand Valley is to get everyone
where they need to be,
and that means really being engaged
with students and helping them meet
those goals.
