Another example that I would like to bring
as a difference between working between different countries and
may be quite specific to the
Middle East is a question of age. Like in many parts of the world
age is seen as a fact of wisdom and experience
and because most of us--usually--when people get older they get
to this age, of course, you learn more through our
life, through our work experiences. And
when you interact with certain countries in the
in the region, particularly in the Gulf, a very successful young professional
who might be leading a team
Interactions with the national country
may be affected by the fact of age
And a young person although technically competent
may not be seen as senior enough to interact with very senior levels
within certain countries. So sometimes being aware of the age difference
being aware
gender differences for example. It's very important to have the right
team composition so that the technically competent
young professional could be balanced with more seasoned
person who can
support and guide the person within
the team, within the work that they're doing together
I think that balancing is also a positive thing
although it might not necessarily be seen
as important from outside. But given the culture
given the traditions and being aware of this fact
helps a lot when you work in that part of the world
