Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch.
Expected June 2013.
Samsung may be steaming ahead in the smartphone market, but their line-up of Galaxy Tab tablets
have always had a much tougher fight against Apple iPad line. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab
3 10.1-inch attempts to improve on last year's equivalent Tab 2 device, but it still falls
short of Apple's offering.
Not an awful lot has changed in hardware terms between the two generations of the 10" device
except that the processor speed has been boosted to a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU from the underpowered
1GHz dual-core found in the previous version. The display is pretty much unchanged with
a 10.1" 1280 x 800 pixel panel, on the back is a 3 megapixel camera with a 1.3 megapixel
one on the front, the RAM is just 1GB and the Tab 3 10.1-inch has either 16GB or 32GB
of flash storage.
The Tab 3 10.1-inch is available in WiFi-only, HSPA+ and/or LTE configurations. The operating
system is Android 4.2, and this version of the Tab 3 measures 243 x 176 x 8.0mm, weighs
510 grams and packs a 6800 mAh battery.
In most respects the Apple iPad 4 beats the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch hands down in almost
every category. But if you're looking for an Android tablet it does seem to be pretty
competitive, however you can get pretty much the same features in the 8-inch version of
the Tab 3 for a lower price point.
Samsung say that the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch should be available from June onwards. No
guidance was given on price, although it should be cheaper than the closely related Galaxy
Note 10.1 which retails for about 450.
