So, I hear doctors recommend that we get 7-8 hours of sleep and uh...
Fat chance!
I definitely don't make that most of the time until maybe after two or three week when I
finally just crash and can't handle it anymore.
Well, you live a little different life than I do. I mean... How are you able to get enough
sleep with the children and the work and all that you do?
It's not easy, Jeremy. It's not easy.
I try to turn in about 10 O'Clock, myself. I have to get a good eight hours sleep. I
think I probably need more because I find myself napping, which is frustrating. There
are just a few times when I wake up and I feel refreshed throughout the whole day. And...
Where I don't feel this lull. Also during college I had to take naps which is depressing
'cause my friends would knock on my dorm-room and they'd say "Hey man, come on out." "I
can't I've got to take a nap!" What am I, 80 or something?
How shameful. (yeah) Well, what a disgrace you are to the college community by taking
a nap! How lame!
I know, in college there is a term: you take an all-nighter, pull and all-nighter as it
were. No, I could never do that. I could never make it through.
When you take naps, what sort of effect does it have on you when you go to bed that night,
later?
I either really needed the nap and I end up falling asleep at the normal time later anyway
or I wake up really refreshed and uh... I'll end up staying up until midnight or so not
being able to sleep.
I'll try to take some uh... melatonin... you know, in pill form.
My sister swears by it, actually. (well...) It's not a sleeping pill, per se.
It's uh... something that helps you stay asleep.
Ah, experimenting with the cough syrup, are we?
Oh wow, are you kidding me? I'm like uh... freebasing cough syrup lately, 'cause I need
to sleep.
I'm also thinking, you know... It accumulates. You go into sleep debt, if I don't get enough
sleep several nights in a row. 5 hours sleep is not too little, but it's not enough, really,
either. And uh... if you do that over a number of nights, finally, it catches up with me
and I'll be dozing off at the wheel when I'm driving usually home from work. In the afternoon
is when it typically hits me.
So, what do you do in order to help yourself go to sleep?
I've told you before that I follow Dr. Weil and... Not every single day, but almost every
day, I will do his uh... breathing exercises that are good for helping you relax. And uh...you
can use it at anytime when you're... you know, when you feel particularly on edge.
