Hi, in this section we're going to talk to you about heating the shanty, very important.
We run a propane tank on the outside, typically it's a twenty gallon propane tank with a 5
- 12 foot hose. It's very important to have the right parts for this, the last thing you
want to do is fill a shanty full of gas and then have someone decide they're going to
light a cigarette. So we're going to be very, very careful in putting that together, the
gas and the situation where we have a hose that is running through the bottom of the
floor, near the floor. The table will be folded down, and the heater can be placed on the
table. Rudy is now going to light the heater. This particular type of heater serves as both
a heater and a cooker. It has three different settings, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 BTU's, which
is quite a bit, Low, Medium and High. Even on the coldest of days a heater like this
on Low will heat up a shanty inside when it's all closed up to about 80 - 85 degrees. "Rudy,
do you have any experience with using these types of heaters? I do, mine's a little bit
different than this, I wish it had the cooking feature that yours has. Mine's a little different
filament on the inside. Once again, mine only does 8,000 BTU's, which is great for a portable
two or three man shanty". One of the advantages of using this particular type of heater is
that it can also be used as a cooker. And simply by flipping it over, and around, we
now have a cooker where we can take the mess kit, while we're here in the shanty, and cook
a meal right on top.
