The bones of Maori soldiers held overseas must be returned.
That's according to David Rankin of Te Matarahurahu.
He says that according to Maori protocols,
the bones should be returned home.
This comes after the desecration of the memorial for NZ soldiers
in Benghazi, Libya.
Rankin also says that it's a disgrace to the memories
of those soldiers who gave their lives for the next generation,
although he admits that it will be a difficult undertaking.
Maori are not fighting to bring them back.
What's important is that what's happening is wrong.
We need to go there,
dig them up and bring them home to bury them on Maori land.
Our ancestors are stuck in foreign soil.
The Commonwealth War Graves Committee is responsible
for the cemeteries of soldiers who died on foreign soil.
