This may be Texas but there's a fancy side to compliment the rough and tough image of
the Lone Star State. The Capitol grounds feature seventeen monuments chosen in 1888 by local
civil engineer William Monroe Johnson. I'll go into each monument in separate videos.
In 1995 the south grounds were restored to this beautiful park-like splendor including
improvements to the ground walk, custom iron fencing and landscaping. It was during this
phase of renovation that preventative measures were put into place like sprinkler systems,
security lighting and water conservation irrigation. Today, the Capitol grounds are a serene, beautiful
backdrop for the Texas government, as well as the site for many public events throughout
the year.
