Now we're going to talk about one my absolute favorite tricks, the tire slide. It was first
popularized by Garrett burns in the late 1990's and it is a trick that essentially you go
up almost like you are going to air out of a quarter pipe, just a couple of inches out
and as your back wheel comes up over the coping you kick it out and slide the back tire while
the front tire is still hanging in the air and you slide it across the coping and pull
it back in and ride out. It almost looks like a skateboard maneuver because it is very fast
and it is a real slash with your legs. It requires a really quick snap and the slide
involved is a really interesting trick and it took me a good while to figure it out and
once I realized that it can be applied everywhere and you don't really just have to do it on
quarter pipes. You can even do it riding down the street if you see a curve waxed up. You
can put your back wheel on whatever it is that is going to slide and push it and let
it slide for a second and it is pretty crazy actually once you start doing it on big ramps
or all sorts of street obstacles. At the same time everyone has to start somewhere so I
thought I would show you guys how to do it on a five foot quarter pipe, something not
too steep and not too flat and it is really an almost perfect obstacle to learn it on.
The main key is just to go a little bit fast, like I said touch faster than you would if
you were trying to do a little coping height air. So I'm going to teach you how to do a
tire slide.
