This should give you an overview of Zion National Park
Follow this river I'm here at the visitors centre
And I'm going to go up this little path And I'm going to get a nice view of the Watchman
So it's not too far a walk Now I know where I'm heading for that is the
Watchman And this must be Bridge Mountain
And in between is the Watchman Trail And that is where I will be walking on a little
mile or so long trail So this is the North Fork of the *** River
in Zion National Park It's flowing rather fast
So there trail is just running alongside it right now
Look at this view You feel so small when you're in these canyons
like this These towering things all around you
I just love looking at all these different layers
Some are quite flakey Like this bit, that bit looks like it could
easily break This bit is more sturdy
So part of it erodes faster than the rest so you get this big block overhanging
I'm having a good look across to the entrance of Zion National Park now
The entrance is around here I'm not exactly sure what these mountains
are called I know in that direction there's the West
Temple and the Three Marys, but I don't have good enough maps to be able to pick them out
Whatever these mountains are they look fantastic So here I am looking at the Watchman on the
Watchman Trail So now we know who watches the watchman as
the old Roman saying goes It's me
Right let's have a little walk on this loop trail
See where it takes us It's quite nice being semi high up overlooking
the bottom of the canyon over there It's not taken me too long to get up here
actually That's why it's just perfect for people who
want a short hike If you stay in Springdale then as soon as
it's sunrise you can be up here parked in the visitors centre
And then just climb up here I think we're heading down to a view of the
visitors centre now I wish I knew more about the plants here because
I'm not sure what any of these are called whatsoever
Who's that handsome shadow? Wow, what a beautiful valley this is
And this is just the entrance So over there is Springdale, it's a town you
can stay at It's pretty much right outside the entrance
to the national park
I'm on my way back down now and I ran into a retired couple from Virginia
And I was speaking to the lady for quite a bit
She does lots of hiking in England and she's decided she wants to see more of America
And, you know, we talked about places we've seen and she's done lots of hiking near where
I live and she's done parts of the Pennine Way, so that's pretty cool
And she lives near the Appalachian Trail and I did the A.T. nine years ago now, wow a long
time Yeah, so it's always nice to you know just
talk to people along the route And looking back you can see the little thing
I was actually walking on, that's where the loop trail was
So you can see it wasn't that much of a climb up compared to the rest of the places surrounding
it It took about an hour to do this thing in
total A really nice easy trail
