Prime Minister Chung Hong-won issued a special statement just about an hour ago, urging the
country's doctors to call off a six-day strike planned for later this month.
The prime minister said the medical community should no longer inconvenience the public
and should instead come to the negotiating table.
He also expressed his deep regret about a one-day walk-out held by the Korean Medical
Association on Monday in opposition to the government's reform measures.
Referring to the historic Hippocratic Oath, in which physicians and other medical professionals
swear to practice medicine honestly, Chung accused the association of neglecting nobility.
He also said the government will let the nation know what's best for the public health and
what the medical community wants by next Thursday.
