>>REPORTER: We save lives here at Cheney Tech in Manchester where we had a blood drive.
We had a chance to speak to an involved teacher, Mr. Strahowki.
>>STRAHOWSKI: The school drives that we have are mainly for just students. There have always
been at least a drive or two a year and we wanted to do more. And we have the ability
to run six drives a year -- five during the school year and one during the summer. So,
we have the opportunity and we’re going to take it.
We’ve been honored as the high school of the year back in I believe 2007. We won scholarship
money last year as we were, I think, fourth. We were second overall in the state last year
for total pints. And fourth for the percentage of the students that donate. We’re hoping
to be first in the state this year.
>>REPORTER: We also spoke to Marielly Rivera; a senior who donated blood.
>>MARIELLY RIVERA: Well, I’ve been waiting since like freshman year to give blood, and
now I’m not going to stop.
>>REPORTER: This is Bailey Norman signing off for Fox 61 Student News.
