With number one, I am impressed with the ability of people who are strategic to, first of all,
think of themselves as an enterprise, as a business. It seems logical, but again I think
of lot of people count the word, they check in, and they do the job and sometimes they
do a very, very, very good job but maybe they are not really thinking the way the an organization
thinks. What do I need to do to be competitive? And in today's world with technology, with
the global competition, I guarantee you there's somebody in India, or there's somebody in
China who would love to be doing what you are doing right now. Or maybe there is a firm
that could be else or so we all have competition and I think strategic people really do think
about "how do I add distinctive value to the organization? "And that's absolute but different
than just showing up for work which isn't bad either because we need people to show
up and just take care of business today. Number two. And again, these Meyer may not correlate
with yours unless you came up with again disability to think creatively outside of the box. They
use their imagination, their ingenuity a lot. Very courageous, they are willing to take
some risk, smart risk. They are disciplined, they don't get caught up in the crush of the
activity trap and everything else, very much self-aware and I think somebody touched on
this earlier, they are self-aware of what's going on inside the environment within their
job, within their organization, hats happening in the that broader world and they think,
what is energy prices going to do to my work in my job? What's this going to do changes
in transportation? They can think big picture and they are not afraid to cease the moment
and jump in, and take the initiative. I had one person said, "Boy, that sounds very octopunarial."
I thought about it for a second and said, "That's exactly it! Strategic people kind
of have this octopunarial mindset, even though they may be a computer analyst, a charge specialist,
an actuarial, or anything. They really look at themselves as a business, as a solution.
We are all a solution to somebody's problem. Do we know who that is? And do we know their
problems that we can help solve and bring solutions to? And sometimes you have to be
a little bit careful because Henry Ford once said," If my customers would have asked me,
they would have said Give me a faster horse". So sometimes, your customers may not even
be aware
