This is Martin Shervington and I'd like to show you today how to make Google Plus
a thriving place to be. If you don't add anyone into your circles, you're probably
find that you're just posting things onto your page
and nobody's commenting and nobody's sharing or plus one'ing. So in order to make it
a thriving place the first thing that we're going to do is add some circles.
So if you see this box at the top here, I can Cclick the cursor into it and I can search.
Now I know that if I search for ‘Shervington Engagers’
up here
that there are some circles out there that I've made.
I'll just scroll down this page
and you'll see that people have shared them like Rumiana has shared it here.
We've got Commoogling engagers circle two -
so these are helpful people in the community, people who like to
collaborate.
And i'm building up more and more people - curating more and more people - are into them.
So if I scroll down, I can see that, there's a circle two
that we have there, but we also have a circle one, and I can add in
one or both.
And I can adjust them later.
But let's now have a look at how I add them in. So I choose I'm going to add in
Commoogling Engagers Circle One.
And I can either view the shared circle first or I can just add circle.
I'm going to add it in straight away for ease. So I click the button to add.
So I'm now going to add the circle on this occasion Commoogling Circle One.
And contained within it are a bunch of people that have been engaging with me
during my time on Google Plus. I've brought them all together
and put them into a circle. And I decide the name of that circle.
I can then
add myself into that circle as well when I share it publicly
and it will adjust the people. so I can add, I can remove,
I can make the circles my own.
Once I've done that, all I need to do is to press add ‘Commoogle Circle’.
It will add it in.
Now just before I do that,
it is really important for you to know there are so many circles out there.
If you search for some somebody's name or subject matter and search for circle as
well, you find out who else is being curated, lots of circles. And hopefully
you'll find many people that you're going to relate to on passions and interests and geo-
graphy and wherever you're living and so on
so this is just one circle that we're going to add in to use as an example.
So I'm going to press out now.
So you went from none people, or very few in your circles, straightaway to
four hundred ninety five people in your circles, which is a great start.
I also want to add in another circle.
I'm running a search using a hashtag this time.
Want to add in another circle. Now the hashtags
will help me refine
what
has been searched for.
So the hashtag, if it has been used before, for instance, I used a hash-
tag in this post, where I put a quote at.
But I also know I've used it in some circles as well. So
as I'm scrolling eventually I come to Seinfeld two-point zero.
Because I've curated, I've brought together, a bunch of people who like the show
Seinfeld.
So on this occasion I'm going to ‘view shared circle’.
And just have a look at
it. Same process.
And I can choose whether to
add it in. And I'm going to add it in. And
then I'm going to call that, 'Seinfeld.'
Then I click ‘Seinfeld Circle’.
And as you'll see
that has been added
down here.
And you'll see that this will all buildup. These are your circles.
So if for instance the people were family, like Paul Platts
and a great friend of mine, almost like family. Then we have Linda Dee,
and like family as well. So these are people that I would add in
maybe to other circles.
And look at then, differentiating in a little more
who I am following.
In other words, who I have circled.
Here's an extra tip, just as a bit of an introduction. If I click
on the family circle,
you see that I can press
‘edit circle’. Now that allows me to add in, maybe,
Google Plus family, so I can change the name of the circle. But also 0:04:32.980,0:04:35.509 I can make the circle people
I spend my time with online. I can give myself a
reminder of who I've put in any specific circle. Okay.
Also, there are a couple of sites, just to let you know about. One of which is called
Public Circles Database.
And this has a list of circles that are
shared publicly on Google Plus
and also CircleCount Dot Com, which we'll talk about again.
But both of them have a tremendous amount of circles. And you can search and
you'll be able to find
people that you're going to want to relate to.
So that is a very quick way to add in circles. What this
means
is that you can see their content in your stream.
Hopefully you found that useful and you're starting to roll now with Google Plus.
If you'd like to subscribe to my YouTube channel, then there's going to be
a lot more handy hints and tips along the way.
And I hope to be engaging with you soon on Google Plus.
