In cultural news, a well-known Mexican entrepreneur and philanthropist inaugurates a new museum
in Mexico. Mr. Carlos Slim Helú has opened the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, which will
house over 60,000 works from the 15th through the 20th century. These include masterpieces
by Auguste Rodin, Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Leonardo Da
Vinci, and other world famous artists and sculptors. Named after Mr. Slim’s late wife,
the US$34 million museum has six halls of exhibition space. Admission for visitors is
free.
