Hi, my name is Liz Broderick
and I'm the new Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner
and Commissioner responsible for Age Discrimination.
Welcome to my Listening Tour.
I‘m often asked what my agenda will be,
What are the issues I'm going to focus on?
Of course, I come with my own ideas and experience,
but I have much to learn.
And first, I must listen.
So I'm here to listen to you, the women and men of Australia.
As the mother of an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter,
I want to create a fair and equal society.
I want my children and yours,
to live in a world where there's equal representation of women and men.
Where both women and men can be involved in family life and also in paid work,
where caring is valued and shared,
and where we can live a life free from discrimination, harassment and violence.
So I want your ideas.
That's what my Listening Tour is all about.
I will be travelling to all states and territories
to hear what you have to say about equality of men and women in 2007.
There are many important issues facing our community today.
I will use the information that you give me on the listening trip
to help me set my priorities over the five year years.
So I really look forward to hearing from you through our website
to getting your comments and views.
And I encourage you to keep coming back to visit the site,
as we progress around the country.
I look forward to sharing this journet with you.
