In environmental news, a cassava project in Nigeria helps farmers greatly increase their
yields. Unleashing the Power of Cassava in Africa, which is being put into effect by
the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, provides participants with training and high
quality cassava stems. Mr. Bashir Adesiyan, Chairman of the Ido, Oyo chapter of the Nigerian
Cassava Growers Association said, “With local varieties, I used to harvest 10 tons
per hectare but now, it is more than 20 tons per hectare.” The states of Osun, Ondo,
Ekiti, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue are also beneficiaries of the program.
Kudos, Unleashing the Power of Cassava in Africa and International Institute of Tropical
Agriculture, on your successful collaboration. May it continue to assist many beautiful Nigerian
citizens in producing flourishing harvests on a gentle and long-lasting Earth.
