Betty, what does connecting with your neighbors have to do with your personal relationship
with Jesus?
Well...since Kevin Kieschnick has been the Pastor at St. Paul (Marigny)
He has been gently leading St. Paul members in a direction of community
outreach
and involvement.
This is most important to me,
personally,
because i believe
that Christ gave us the "Great Commission".
But I also think it's important
to know our neighbors and our community,
just because we are all people.
St. Paul has been doing various things in the last year to get more involved with the
neighborhood.
Two of the things have been movie nights. Last Fall we had "The Yellow Submarine" and
just a week ago we had "E.T.".
There's free popcorn, free snacks
and everybody comes together and enjoys each other's company.
Recently we had "Mutts in the Marigny"
which was a great mixer of church (members) and neighbors
and their dogs and cats.
There were Veterinarians
...animal care booths, a kissing booth,
and a blessing of the animals and neighbors and members had a great time
all afternoon
enjoying each other's company
We recently had a Tri-Church Picnic
that included Grace Baptist in the Bywater, St. Paul in the Marigny, and Journey
9th Ward in St. Claude.
We gathered for a barbecue and for all kinds of food
in one of the local parks.
...It was a great time for members of all three churches to see each other and get
to know each other.
On an ongoing affair, we have the Faubourg Marigny Society (FMIA)
which meets here every month.
And since Kevin has come, he has encouraged some of our members
to go to these meetings and be involved
so we can get to know this group.
Before each event, Kevin and his friends walk the neighborhood and pass
out
three thousand flyers. Putting them in doors and giving them to people they
meet on the sidewalk.
It's another great way to meet the neighborhood,
meet people, and let them know that we're here.
Lastly, I think that God has got St. Paul "on the move"
and we are very thankful for this.
