[Jeff Langevin] It's changed my life is changed how we think about things
it had a profound impact I remembered
and in high school I was put into a college stream so naturally I just went
to college after high school
because they didn't think they would do well University nor do they even really
do well in high school
but to after college I am
I made it through not really well but it but I did okay and I and I graduated
with a diploma
but when I came to University I really blossomed as as a student I did better
University than I ever did in high school
the never did a college maturity has had something to do with it but there's a
lot of excellent resources here trend and they're well
advertise so if I'm having travel in a certain area
I can't go to academic skills I can go to academic advising I can use those
resources
I think the key differences in college you get your gonna get a lot of
practical experience
in my case I took the correction worker program that provided me with a
six-month field placement
at a a correctional facility that the experience
it there's no really is no substitute for experience but if you want a
compliment that experience
with theory the University i think is the place to do that
it builds I'm what you've already learned and what you've already
experienced
and when to eat once you get that well-rounded have an education
your employability skyrockets well well for me personally because I'm
I mean I was a mature student and I have a family going waited for an education
wasn't something that was a
was an option for me but even I think even if it was I would always consider
trent because as a mature student at that
maybe because I have a child that I would belong in if people found I had a
child then I would ostracise myself even further from
for the student community but eventually a
became such a part of the community and so comfortable that I would even bring
my
my child with me to go talk with professors and have meetings another
reason that I wanted the wanted to come to university was I wanted
my son to to have a a positive role model
and I and I didn't just do it and indeed get my degree in and barely make it
I did really well and proud of myself for that it's it's opened everybody
I imagine as long as you pass the admission requirement
everybody can come here it does it doesn't matter if you're from a
different country
it doesn't matter if your first generation student it doesn't matter if
your college graduate
high school applicant anybody can come the University
after graduation I spent a year gaining some entry-level experience
and I'm in the clear that I've always wanted to do and I couldn't be happier
that I've got the experience and not only that but the education
to apply to their experience and have a really rewarding life
