Hey guys, it's me again. It is already time for section 2 of unit 3! You guys have gotten
so far already, I am super proud because this is a big accomplishment: you're learning a
foreign language and you're getting really into it, so it's excellent. So anyways this
section is when Marco goes to his home, his host home, and meets his host family and sees
the room that he's going to be staying in. So I think I told you guys before that I spent
2 weeks in a home stay for my first time in China, in Beijing. And it was awesome, it
was a totally different feel from living in the dorms for those first two weeks, but I
did have a really big hurdle to get over and that was homesickness. When I was in the dorms,
it kind of like a surreal adventure, kind of like you were playing at going to college
and living in the dorms with a room mate and going to classes, but then I went to this
house and I met this family and this huge wave of homesickness hit me, probably I think
within 20 minutes of getting to the house. I think because it was another home and another
family, and it made me miss my home and my family. So I cried, for about 5 or 10 minutes,
just bawled. But it was okay, because after 5 or 10 minutes just like full out crying,
I felt a lot better and I felt totally fine to go and meet the family and talk with them.
So it's really important when you're going to a foreign country to own your emotions,
to just let them come up, because otherwise it's going to just explode at one point. So
anyways, on the language side of things, this section you guys will be learning some really
useful adjectives, which is great, and how to describe things, and you'll also be learning
another way to introduce yourself, and an important little tidbit about formal language.
So, let's get started!
