uh... i gotta tell you right now folks jonathan said he he he he would you tell
me from the beginning early in fifteen minutes
abide in a complaint i appreciate him of staying longer hike you know i a m i'm
genuinely mystified
by this notion
and frankly i think it's
there's there's some type of rose colored glasses involved in this because
if we can not get
taxes
to be raised on the comic act
just recap when we know that we're taking in eight percent less on social
security readying come then we have traditionally
if we know that we are taxes relative to g_d_p_
it's three or four points less
if we know that the deficit is a function of the the recession that we
had
if we are all these things
and we still can not raise taxes on wealthy and not suggesting we we know so
i do this now until we get
until a better economic position
but if we know that we can't do this in five years
how is it that we can assume that somehow those forces that are preventing
us from doing that
are going to say well since you've cut benefits
for people and so scary medicare we're now going to really fun discretionary
spending for the poor i don't understand how that works
nobody even a lot of present me with that evidence
and i've asked our best jonathan i've asked other people i i just haven't seen
it
because i don't think it exists
the realities is that this offer
for better or for worse i would suggest words
has already been put out there by the president
the president has already offered
future benefits
with social security
the on the chain c_p_i_
cut medicare benefits
and yet the republicans still
have allowed for this discretionary cuts
that are hurting the poor i've got uh... we'll talk about this in the second half
of the show
but the fact of the matter is that the sequestration if we're to believe gene
sperling
in writing to bob woodward
that entitlement reformed was built into the sequestered into the d_n_a_ of his
question other words
the sequester was supposed to bring about was supposed to be this conjul to
bring about cuts in entitlement reform and it didn't work that too many seems
to be absolute evidence
that it won't work
that if we were to cut future benefits and uh... so scared him in assuming for
the moment that i am pie in the sky
thinking that there isn't
a problem with the system of medicare
fizzles out there they're still gonna have to pay
for uh... overpriced uh... health insurance
antenna and assuming that i'm power in the sky believing that
uh... soc kerrey uh... problems can be reversed by payroll tax
there's no evidence that cutting those benefits
are literally to the policy outcomes that have been uh... that are being
projected
by jonathan scarred an
i believe there is a ever aaa ample evidence
that politically speaking
democrats calling for entitlement cuts now when actually lead to more cuts in
discretionary spending because they will lose at the ballot box
and that we all have undaunted by the government
solely of republicans who'll then proceed to cut discretionary spending
is at the end of the day they just don't want taxes they just don't want to pay
for these things
i do you know that's that's it but i uh... do appreciate uh... i mean
drive a new wireless inviting amok
there's a lot of people wouldn't come on so i definitely
uh...
hectic it deserves a lot of respect for
for coming on knowing that you know
we've had this argument before uh... must many times
in the uh... n in the green room at msnbc
and i appreciate incoming on have very good support to do so
as film just uh... i'm still left with this wondering like what is the
political value
uh...
unifi u
believe that there's a policy value but
we cannot control the future spending of a of congress
had we not learned that lesson time and time again
that we can even project out six months into what congress is going to do
nevermind twenty years
is is that all that will happen if we cut uh... soc purity medicare now is
that
they will put that in their pocket whoever the day is
and then they will proceed to cut
spending on the poor
so it's a false choice in my estimation
it's not only a false choice
it is a poor prescription to avoid that false choice
