I've been an English Language teacher for 17 years and a teacher trainer for the past
eight years. Here at the University of Cumbria, I head
the Centre for English Language Learning and Teaching, develop a range of programmes, teach
a range of modules from English for Academic Purposes to Modern Foreign Languages, and
carry out research, most recently on Assessment for Learning.
The MA TESOL programme runs at Lancaster campus. Lancaster is a beautiful, old, historic city.
We've got two universities in Lancaster and over 20,000 students.
The Lake District is right on your doorstep and Lancaster was recently voted the safest
student city in the UK. A distinctive feature of this MA TESOL programme
is the view it takes of language learning as a context-dependent process.
We recognise that wherever you come from, there'll be expectations and norms of what
it is to teach English. However, we won't encourage you to simply teach as you were
taught. Instead, we'll challenge your views and seek to present you with new ideas.
In other words, we'll always take your own particular professional context into account,
but in ways that allow us to build on the strengths and traditions, and deal with its
limitations. To apply for this course, or to find out more
information about the modules contained within our MA TESOL programme, go to this address.
