John: Hey, John Sonmez from simpleprogrammer.com. Today, I want to talk to you about something
that I think affects a lot of people and it really can hold you back. In fact, it’s
a force that’s really hurt me in my life and I have experienced it actually this week
as I'm trying to launch my new product. Stay tuned and I’ll tell you about that force
and how you can overcome it next. I’ve been trying this week to figure out
what I need to do to launch my new product. I’ve got a product coming out on March 27th,
“How to Market Yourself as a Software Developer.” I’ve done all the work. I’ve written all
the books. I’ve recorded the videos. I’ve got this whole course and package put together
that was a lot of work to do over the last few months doing all this work pretty much
full time. Now, I'm at the easy part. All I got to do is launch this thing. I just got
to put together a launch sequence and I just have to get this out there.
Guess what. Now, I’m paralyzed with fear. I can’t move forward. I'm having all of
these doubts because I feel like I don’t know what choices to make. I don’t know
what should I do for a launch sequence. I feel like there’s a million different choices
I could make, different e-mails I could send out, different ways I could advertise this
product and really get it ready to be launched. I'm paralyzed with fear that I’ll make the
wrong decision. What happens? Well, I don’t want to take
any action. I just want to sit in my desk and not do anything. I just want to surf,
Twitter or Facebook and I want to do all these minor tasks that aren’t putting me in the
direction of launching this product. Why is that? Well, the reason why this happens
is because when we don’t know what the right decision is, we’d rather take no action
at all. That’s the worst thing that we could do. We’re automatically taking the wrong
decision if we decide to take no action. What we really need to do instead and what I am
doing now, what I'm trying to do to launch my product, is I’m taking an action. It
doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong. I'm going to take that action and see where
it goes because I know that I'm going to make mistakes. I'm going to have failures. I'm
going to learn from those failures. The only way to get there is to go ahead and take that
leap to jump ahead and go ahead and dive, and then see what happens.
I’m not going to launch this product perfectly. I know that but I'm not going to launch my
second product if I don’t ever launch my first. I'm going to learn lessons from launching
my first and then I’ll learn more lessons from launching my second and so on, and so
forth. Really, the point here is that it’s important to take action. It doesn’t matter
what the action is. We’re so likely to become paralyzed with fear because we’re afraid
we’re going to make the wrong decision that we take no action at all and opportunities
pass us by. I would encourage you today if you’re struggling
with some kind of decision. Maybe you’re trying to figure out what direction you want
to take your career, what technology you want to specialize in whether or not you want to
build this app or this kind of app, or if you want to build for Android or iOS, or whatever
it is. Take that decision and commit today to making a decision and realize in your mind
that it doesn’t matter which path that you take. As long as there’s a reasonable path,
it’s better to take some kind of action than no action at all. You might be putting
too much emphasis on the decision itself. Well, hopefully, that advice has helped you.
I need that advice this week. Hopefully, I’ll take some of my own advice and I’ll start
figuring this out. I’ll get over that fear and get this product launched here on March
27th. That’s my launch date. Thanks for watching this video. Don’t forget to subscribe
if you like these kinds of videos. You can subscribe to my channel here and you’ll

Take care and have a great week.
