Hey everybody, Luis Perez here with a
quick tutorial focusing on the new enhancements in iOS 7.1
which was just released by Apple today. And here I have two
iPhones. Over on the left side I have an iPhone 5 running
iOS 7.0.6 and over on the right side I have an iPhone
5s running iOS 7.1.
In both cases here I am in the Settings and then I'm in the Accessibility
area and so let's take a look at some of the things that have changed.
First, let's take a look at Bold Text. I've turned on that feature
in both devices and one area where this is now
a little bit more evident is if I exit out of the Settings on both devices
and then I'll go into my Home screen
and then just swipe down with one finger to reveal the search,
the Spotlight search, and here you can see there's quite a big difference
in the two keyboards. So the one under iOS 7.0.6
is not as dark, it doesn't have the contrast
as the one in iOS 7.1. So that's a
really nice enhancement for people who need this additional contrast when using
the keyboard. And then another feature that has been enhanced is the
Reduce Motion option. So if I go into this option on both phones
it looks the same in the Settings but now
one additional area where you will see the Reduce Motion setting take effect
is when you multi-task. So I'm going to double-click the Home button
on both devices. There you could see that
Zoom effect still takes place even if you have Reduce Motion turned on
on iOS 7.0.6 but if I do
the same thing on iOS 7.1 I now get a
cross fade effect instead of that zooming motion. And the same thing if I exit
out of multi-tasking.
So that's again just a small enhancement
for the Reduce Motion option in Accessibility.
In iOS 7.1 there are also a couple of new settings that you should be aware of.
The first of these allows you to turn on Button Shapes.
So if you look under General at the top of the screen
you'll notice that I now have an additional visual cue in the form of
a button shape. So that can help make those
areas of the interface a little bit more noticeable. The next thing here
under Increase Contrast before we had the option to reduce transparency,
but now we have two additional settings. We can darken the colors
so if you look at the word Accessibility at the top of the screen you'll notice that when
I tap the button to darken colors
that word is going to go from a a light blue to a much darker blue.
And so that provides a little bit of additional contrast. And then the
last option here, which won't show through in the video because of the
recording software, is to reduce the white point.
And what this setting does is, basically, for people who may be sensitive
to an overly bright interface, this could really help.
in that area. So there you have it, just a few of the enhancements
in iOS 7.1 as Apple continues to try to make the
interface more usable for everybody. This is Luis Perez
I hope you've enjoyed this quick tutorial and I'll talk to you soon.
