This month on ETT we're diving into the world of high fashion
And teaming up with FIDM, The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
FIDM is a fashion and design school. Most people know them as fashion
but they also have programs in video production and graphic design.
This is a perfect school for anyone looking to get into our industry.
They have a designer right now that is making snowboard outerwear
This is the perfect opportunity for us to go in and create Avant Garde board
A crazy board to fit with her collection.
We're gonna take from an old surd design, and create an asymmetrical board
am, our snowboard is going on the runway in eight hours.
That has this long tail, and basically gives the tail this long whip.
You'll have a long heel side edge, and a very short toe-side edge.
We have all of the designers drawings out. All these original sketches.
That are really cool.
We have all this fabric. We're gonna use all the fabric, we're gonna use
her designs.
All of this around here is gonna be fabric. With snaps all around the sides.
So it's removable.
We're sewing, we're cutting up fabric, we're laying it down.
It's
Classic ETT style, we're going in a totally new direction.
We're gonna add a sublimate metal topsheet.
Along with some of the fabric. We put the image on this metal,
And we're heating it up to like 340 degrees.
The image is actually getting transferred into the metal.
We're gonna be here all night. And we'll get it done.
So we're using a combination of this image and the fabric.
The print is my favorite part, because I actually painted the print.
And that's my own original print. So I haven’t used anyone else’s ideas for that part.
So it's basically all me.
And we're gonna put the fabric right under the bindings. It will just make it easier
for us to find the inserts, and also it gives a cool look on this board.
It's a little stressful right now. Cuz it's three in the morning. This thing hits the runway by nine AM.
So there's really no chance to make a second one. That's the work.
No matter what.
Look at this photo. Oh man. It's five AM and we're done.
Marc and I pulled an all nighter. We did some pretty cool work here.
Sublimation on this metal material, so you have this photograph that Marc took
In the backcountry, mixed with the designers fabric right there.
Gonna bag it up, take it to Joey, I think he walks the runway in four hours so...
Mission complete.
The show is about to start, it's a packed house, the energy is high.
This is crazy.
The snowboard coming down the runway was really cool.
It looked like an art piece. Ridable art.
Working with Kelly has been great. Collaborating with her.
Her personality is amazing, she's got a fresh set of eyes on our industry.
She was really fun to work with.
And you know, some of her designs were really cool.
And some of them are really out there. But so are some of ours.
I think it was perfect collaboration.
The show is over. It was amazing. Now it's time to take that board
and hit the mountain.
We're here at Bear Mountain. Pat Garvin testing out the FIDM Signal board.
What do you think?
I don't know, let's try it.
It's a lot like surfing, like powering with your nose. But it sucks for me because
I suck at surfing.
Definitely like a surfboard shaped ride. Short toe turn and a long heel turn.
And that tail, you can just on a heel lay on it, then these quick short toes.
You get back into it, then a super heel turn.
No question this is a direction snowboard. We put an edge in the sickle
part of the tail, so if you go backwards, snows gonna catch and drop you.
I think my tail fell off.
Manu's style fits perfectly with this board. He's got more of a surfey style,
and he's sucking up turns and tranny's in a way that you need to do with this board.
It was a great build.
