Wells Fargo partnered with the National Fish and Wildlife Association last year 2012. And
it was really part of new environmental commitment. We have a goal with the help of the National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation elite and that goal is a one hundred billion dollars of grants
to environmental non-profits by the year 2020. And this Presidio project is really one of
the recipients of those grants.
The Presidio is the center of the Golden Gate National Parks.
The Presidio itself is about a thousand acres. About three hundred of those acres are native
plant community zones.
The space is very iconic of San Francisco. You see the Golden Gate Bridge right in the
background and everyone knows the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
And it's a National Park surrounded by a densely populated urban center a really important
park in terms of creating accessibility for those folks in the city to experience nature
to get outside those concrete walls
The Presidio is just really kind of the crown jewel of San Francisco. It's this beautiful
park right here by the Golden Gate Bridge and we are really helping to preserve it for
the community today
The work that we are doing here and in and around the Presidio are really important to
enhancing the visitor experience here.
So today we were out at the Presidio with about 20 Wells Fargo volunteers helping to
pull invasive species and to plant new native species here.
So its really important to manage the invasive species out here because we have a lot of
rare plants and a lot of rare ecosystems and habitats here in the Presidio, including a
lot of federal listed and state listed endangered species. And being able to keep those alive
and protect those areas the best way that we can. Its really critical to manage the
invasive species that are threatening there survival.
The Green Team organized this and this is actually apart of our National Fish and Wildlife
foundation collaboration which is to have our green teams get active in the communities
where we support non-profits financially.
And so the Wells Fargo collaboration that we have emphasizes a lot the community aspect
and so this project is used a lot by the community and also a great opportunity to get volunteers
out here who maybe live in the area but don't have those tourist experiences of coming and
visiting the Golden Gate Bridge.
One of the reasons we got involved with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is
really through our tam members. We have done... I think our third project here at the Golden
Gate Parks Conservancy and our team members love to come out and volunteer.
Wells Fargo has helped out a lot in the last couple of years for a lot of our events. And
So being able to put on the programs, put on the interpretive displays, put on the celebrations,
put on the habitat restoration, all this really relies on corporate support
It's been a great support of people showing up asking interesting questions, really knowing
a lot about invasive species, native species. So its been a great experience
I'll definitely do more. I think this is my favorite so far
It's really fun to be outdoors, you know, and have the chance to get to help the environment
at the same time, instead of riding by.
I'm working as a model to encourage more volunteerism among our team members. I love coming out
here and doing this kind of stuff anyway. It's like a dream come true for me to work
for a company so good at supporting the things I'm passionate about.
