Brian D. Lawenda, MD>>> The first time you visit with a radiation oncologist, let me
tell you about what to expect. You are going to come into my office and you are going to
sit down, you are going to have about an hour long conversation into your cancer, the specific
details of your history-your medical history.
We are going to talk to you about your stage of your cancer and what type of treatments
that you are going to have after your surgery which is the most common time that we will
be seeing patients is after surgery. We are going go into a whole description after we
do a physical examination, review your chart, locate your pathology and discuss with you
for probably about 30 minutes to 45 minutes of your encounter with us at your consultation
about what the treatment options are in radiation treatment for you.
We will be talking to you about the technologies that we use. We will be talking to you about
the regimen, or how many treatments that we will be giving you; what to expect each day
during treatment; possible side effect you may have; potential complications that can
come from treatment and what to expect in terms of the outcomes after treatment.
So about an hour long conversation and physical examination to really give you a general idea
of what to expect as we get through treatment.
