THE YLVIS RECIPE ...cello and many hours of training.
One thing is that it's hard and difficult, but it also hurts a lot.
We have a challenge for some well-known guests. We thought we should invite the Ylvis brothers, Bård and Vegard.
Very nice to finally have a name brother in "Førkveld". Are you guys a little nervous about this? You look nervous, Bård.
Do I look nervous? -No. Not at all.
This is like my second home. -Flower arrangements?
When I'm not at work, you will find me in my garden or at home doing flower stuff.
So he has an advantage? -Both of us have loved flower arrangements all of our lives.
What was the challenge, Iselin? -To make a tall and romantic arrangement.
Tall and romantic? -Something you would give and get a response to.
Okay. -Put a bit of your soul in it.
Exactly. Well that's... -It will be a "classical high romance" then.
It will? -Yes. We were told that we were going to do something here.
so we brought something, if that's okay? -Yes of course! Did you bring...?
Yes, because we have our favourites. I really like the "oasis". I tell people to use what you have at home.
Non-traditional stuff. This is a classic that I worked really ***. As a basis.
So you think about food too? -Here's some chocolate. It may be a little "2008",
but people love chocolate. So I brought powdered sugar and some cupcake cases.
So let's see what we can do. -Let's hope they haven't misunderstood the task.
No, they're just being creative. -It became a little chaotic. Vegard got some
advice from you, Iselin. You thought they worked too fast?
No. Not too fast... -Look!
We are impressed so far. -Not so bad, huh?
We look forward to the result and the evaluation. But first, Iselin. Let's repeat. It's Valentine's day.
What are the most important ingredients in a Valentine arrangement? -It depends. Some only want red roses.
I think that it should have many things. This isn't a bouquet, it's an arrangement. But it has color
nuances and some hearts. Chocolate hearts that are edible, but also decorative.
And these beautiful... -Orchids. They make it seem more exclusive.
I think it's more romantic with those in it. -Yes. It looks better with romantic flowers and not
just the red roses. -But the colours are pretty light. Some people
might prefer only the dark roses? Is that too heavy in a valentine arrangement.
Not necessarily. Anything is allowed. It's what you wish to have. There are no rules.
But when you use the light ones, the red ones become more prominent. Red on red might seem
a little too depressing. -Before we move on. You made this beautiful ornament,
did you keep an eye on the ornament the Ylvis brothers have made? Are they good at this?
I am very impressed with how creative they are. No lack of that.
Do you think maybe what they do on the stage effects like what they do now?
They think differently. I can lend you my scissors. -Yes. You can use scissors too? Really?
You did it for so long... -I was working the metal.
But I think most of what she says is true. With the colours and stuff like that. We used Johannes Ittens
wheel of colour. It's a good one. -Like we say: the 12 big ones.
Yes. The 12 colours and the 7 contrasts. Which he also published. What you are saying about the
light colours highlighting the dark colours. I think that's important. But also use strange elements. Like Bård,
who chose the ice cream cone today. -Don't break it!
Break it? I would never do such a thing. That's why I'm using this kind of cone. It's very sturdy, it fits with
the Oasis, and it doesn't need that much water. -I'm impressed. They know their things.
Should we go back to the food? I think of food when I see that thing.
Yeah, there is something to it. -That's what people do wrong, they see an
ice cream cone and they think of food. I think of flowers. -I think of food. Let's go back to the Cod.
So typical... Cod! -From ice cream to Cod.
Did you know that "Skrei"(cod) is from the old word... -"Skride!"
Yes! Which means "to travel". And that's what the Cod does these days. They go for a trip from the Barren Sea
to Lofoten, among others.
...two young boys who charmed the audience for the first time 10 years ago. Since then they've had success
after success, both on the screen and the stage. Now they get good critics for their new show
with the simple name of "Ylvis 4". And that takes a lot of hard work. Watch this.
So first I went out to buy the sheets. Velvet, 129 NOK. That was step one.
No, this isn't experimental theatre, but one of the biggest successes in Norwegian entertainment.
With two sheets of velvet and a cello, they will do things they've never done before.
It's not just that it's hard and difficult. It's also very painful.
Arvid Ones Instructor It's demanding and different from other shows.
And I am very happy to be here from the beginning, from the first idea to what we will make and
they write everything themselves. It comes from their heart.
But back to the velvet and the cello. Bård has been in training for 6 months with a private instructor
to learn what they call "Tissue" in the Circus.
So I've done this stupid thing for 6 months in a studio. I have got hurt. I have some nice pictures
of burns and... -He did get hurt.
Beautiful music and beautiful movement. Welcome, Vegard and Bård. -Thank you, Bård.
You got a challenge here too. What's the worst? To prepare a show or this challenge to make a Valentine arrangement?
We had more time with the show. If we got one year to do that one, I think it would have glowed.
Iselin will evaluate it afterwards. But first we have to talk to you guys a little bit.
What makes you train for 6 months to have a show? What happens in your heads when you make such a decision?
Most of our ideas start out with one of us say "wouldn't it be fun if..." something.
Like in this case which started with the cello idea. But which escalated and ended up with this.
It's something with us being so privileged that we can set aside half a year to do this.
We had already put aside almost a year to work on this show. And we thought "maybe it is possible to
learn something like that?". We had no idea what it was or even what it was called. We just had the vision.
It's a weird process when "you know those fabric things that they hang in at the circus..?"
"That's cool, let's do that." And then "but what will we... How..." We went to Youtube and...
"What's it called?" -"Rope lady circus" or something like that.
"Hanging in ropes". -"Hanging woman."
And at the end you narrow it down to... -You get into a social group and get to know the people. Great fun.
But did you decide who did what beforehand? Do you say to Bård "You have to do that part."
No... -But it said it itself. Vegard has a lot more talent
with learning how to play the cello. -Thank you so much.
There you go. But that's how it is. We have our things that we are better at. And Vegard has
sat down for half a year to learn how to play it. He has never done it before.
So since that position was taken, the other one was free.
How is it to be brothers who must cooperate, but also compete a little against each other?
That's... -I don't think we've... I believe and hope that both of us
have a common direction to make a product. If that ends up with me doing the whole thing, and
Vegard has to go home... -That would be great!
Vegard gets more time off. -I get more time to do billing and office stuff.
We don't have that "now it's my turn". -But we feel it. We have had some times where
"Isn't it a little dumb that I stand in the front time after time?" "Yes, that's wrong."
But that's the drama aspect. -We don't think about it when we do one element
"No... I can do it". And then...
Tell me a little bit about what inspires you. I take for granted that just being here made you think about something...
"Oh, that would be fun to parody." Where do you get the good ideas?
We hang around here at NRK a lot. Just walking through the hallways.
It's from everywhere. We are not active inspiration seekers in any way. It's not like a paint artist who
has to be in that particular cabin because the lighting is so nice on the mountains.
We see something stupid written on the backside of a frozen fish package and...
But you are in the spotlight too. You have the new show where you do a little.. "Zumba?"
We do? -Or something similar.
It might be similar to Zumba. -You have a puppet of a famous artist named
Aune Sand. You have very violent fight between two choir boys. You live in the time, taking the pulse...
But we do live in the times in the pulse on the pulse... -We are in 2011 so we get our ideas right now.
It's not something we wrote and hid in a box for 10 years. "Wouldn't a "Heismann Hå" parody be great right now?"
So of course it... -But if "Heismann Hå" did a comeback...
We will be ready.
Are there times where you stop and say "We can't do this. This is too much."
Yes, yes... Very often! -All the time.
We have to separate... -Is it you guys who stop it yourselves?
I think we are able to stop ourselves. But many might think that "He is very funny at a pre-party.
You should have your own TV show." But I think those are two very different things. To do something
for 400 people sitting still and watching you is different from goofing around. In both ways.
So you say that all of those pre-party shows can just forget it? -I'm just saying that I've been on parties with
comedians and there are many boring people... It's not the same thing. You have to control yourself, you
can't sit there and say stuff that... Of course you are more explicit backstage than you are on stage.
At the same time we often get the problem with working too much on one thing and we forget the point.
You get lost in the process and forget what was funny to begin with. We did it a hundred times,
but it's the first time the audience see it. We have to hold on to the idea.
But you are both comedians and entertainers that have pushed the limits and created new ways
within humor in Norway. Let's see if the flower decorator think you also made new ways when it
comes to ornaments. Iselin, will you come over here and evaluate this as a professional. This Valentine ornament
that Bård and Vegard made. -Don't be nice. Have no mercy.
We did have little time to... Okay no excuses. -What do you think?
I am very impressed by the creativity. -We should clap for that.
I start with the positive. Just kidding. I think it's creative in many ways, but I
think it looks strange with that one stick all alone in the top. -That's not good.
I think it looks too alone. If you put more of them there, maybe...?
I understand what you're saying because in the business we say that the air is for free.
Exactly. But other than that.. The colors are good. And the powdered sugar on the roses was amusing.
I think that was nice. -Shame you can't film in there, because I liked
the rose cupcakes. -Can't they see it?
Maybe take it out? -They can see it...
That has been our trademark for a long time. -I might steal that idea.
Maybe turn it around. Look how nice. "How did they come up with that?"
But should we say that even though this impressed you, they should stick to what they to best?
They don't have to. -They can start doing flower ornaments.
Not right away. -What would happen if you delivered that one to
a competition or an exhibit?
What would people say? -First, the ice cream cone wouldn't do well with water.
But the idea is good. You would score on the creative part and for originality.
I think this deserves an applause. You are good, Bård and Vegard. -Iselin is good too.
From the studio we will now show some other things from what Ylvis have done.
He could tell that the was far away in Jotunheimen late at night to shot.. Sorry. Shoot... Sorry. Look after a moose.
