Hi, I'm Stuart Shepard, this is Stoplight!
We all love an honest opinion. "No that dress doesn't make you look fat."
"Is your job interview with the circus?"
We all want to know what people think even if it's not what we really want to hear.
"It's not that the shirt doesn't go with the pants -- it's more that the shirt
doesn't go with... anything... except a traffic cone."
Mainstream media outlets always like to give the impression that they want opinions but
look out if you simply say what most people in the country already believe.
(Dan Cathy) "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful arrogant
attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about."
The mainstream media did not like hearing that opinion. "Shouldn't he stop donating
to groups who oppose same-sex marriage?"
It's funny because they just smiled when Target not only offered an opinion but actually
ran a fund raiser on its website. There wasn't much said when JC Penny's used a catalog
to express an opinion -- or when Ray-Ban ran this ad. Just an opinion.
It all reminds me of something Chuck Colson said. "Politics is simply a reflection of
the values of the culture." And he's obviously right because there's this opinion.
(Romney) "When I am President, I will defend the Defiance of Marriage Act and I (applause)
and I will fight for an amendment to our constitution that defines marriage as a relationship between
a man and a woman. "
And then there's this opinion. (Obama) "For me personally -- it is important for me to
go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."
So there's really only one opinion left that matters. What's your opinion?
