good
today we're going to talk about the phrase verb
to pick up. To pick up
means to lift something with
your fingers or your hands, typically.
I'm going to pick up. How about I drop
this? Now I'm going to pick up my marker.
I'm picking up my marker.
I'm lifting it with my hands. I could say
"Tom picked up the newspaper" maybe the newspapers
on his front porch; it's been placed there
by the paper boy, he delivered it. Tom picked up the newspaper
from his front porch.
Could you pick your socks up?
So our phrasal verb here is pick
up, but it's separated this time by the object.
Could you pick your socks up? My wife
says this to me all the time.
Which I do pick them up, but behind the couch
there's like a two-foot pile of moldy socks,
because I just chuck 'em come back there. So can you pick your stock up?
You know to pick up also has another meaning.
It can mean to take someone
somewhere in your car, to stop
and get someone in the car
or it could mean to go to the store
or to the post office,
basically anywhere to get something.
I could say to my wife,
"could you pick up some bananas
for me after work?"
So, in this sense
she needs to stop by the grocery
and buy
some bananas. Can you pick up some bandanas?
Please pick up some bananas for me I'm hungry?
I need bananas for dinner. I really don't eat that many bananas for dinner.
However,
we have to pick up when talk about
picking up people. Let me write this down too.
To pick up. I could say
I need
to pick up
a my kids
frahm
school all today
about today I need to pick
at my kids from school today which maintain need to get in my car
drive to school weighed on my kids
they get in the car that means I have picked them up
maybe I pick them up from school on Saturday they wanna go swimming
at the swimming pool so I could say
I'm going
to drop
all this
time we're using drop-off
another freight over I'm going to drop of
my kids at
the pool I kid
ask my wife could you drop
of my prescription at the drugstore
I I need a prescription and I need failed please drop off my
subscript my prescription for me and then later
pick up my subscription for me
so I can have my medicine so to pick up
and to drop off and
to pick up really more than one meaning
its literal incent that you lift something
that figurative in a sense
that you give someone a ride
you stop by somewhere to give someone a ride
you're not actually lifting people
