This video will provide you with a step-by-step instruction on how to
safely
and legally complete a u-turn, multipoint turn
and a reverse park. When completing
a u-turn make sure you have enough space to complete the u-turn
in one movement. Indicate right
and start your u-turn from the left of the center
of the road. When completing a u-turn on a multi-lane road
start from the right lane closest to the dividing line
or median strip. When it's safe to begin the u-turn,
slowly move forward and quickly turn the steering wheel
full lock to the right. When you've made the change of direction and are still
moving slowly
straighten the vehicle's wheels and drive on. If performing
a u-turn at traffic lights there must be a sign saying
U-turn permitted. Ensure to indicate accordingly
check all mirrors and blind spots when completing the maneouver
a multipoint turn involves changing the direction on your vehicle
on a road that might be too narrow to complete a u-turn
to complete this maneouver indicate right
and check the rear view mirror, the road ahead for oncoming traffic
and all pedestrians and checked the right blind spot. Pull the vehicle up parallel
alongside the curb approximately
30 centimetres from the kerb. Now when its safe
and clear to do so. Turn the steering wheel hard to the right and move slowly
turning
hand over hand until just before touching
the opposite kerb. Check for traffic left,
right and both blind spots. Reverse while turning the wheel
to the left and looking over your right shoulder to see the kerb
and when the kerb disappears look over your left shoulder
making sure to stop just before making contact
check for traffic in both directions and blind spots before pulling ahead
accelerating and rejoining the speed of the traffic
to complete a reverse parallel park
indicate left and pull up parallel to and approximately 1 metre from
the parked vehicle. Check all of your mirrors and blind spots to ensure its safe to
reverse
select reverse gear and slowly reverse
until you can see the rear of the parked vehicle in your back
left window. While moving slowly turn the steering wheel quickly to the
left
reaching full lock. When your vehicle
is 45 degrees to the kerb and moving slowly
you should turn your steering wheel to the right full lock until your vehicle
is parallel to the kerb you should try to finish with the vehicle
no further than half a metre from the kerb
and between one to two metres from the vehicle in front
and behind. If you need to, you can move forward or backwards to straighten the
wheels
once you've mastered these skills in a safe quiet back street area
you'll be ready to implement them into your daily driving
in heavier traffic environments. Ensure you've visited learn2go.com
and viewed video 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
