Hi. My name's Veronica Baragas with My Wiggles and Giggles.com, and I'd like to share with
you a little bit about how to become a nanny. So I'm going to just share the experience
that I had of what got me started. I had a family friend who, you know, I've known for
awhile. I probably was about fourteen years old, about to be fifteen, and they needed
a summer nanny. So, I kind of took the position, not really knowing, I...I knew that I enjoy
working with kids. They asked that I get CPR and first-aid certified. Now, even if your
parents don't recommend it or require it, I think that it's just good for you to know
and have that confidence within yourself that in case of an emergency, that you are taken
care of, and you kind of have some background knowledge of what to do in case of an emergency.
So, definitely look into family and friends first. If somebody knows you, and you're just
trying to become a nanny, a lot of the times they're not going to really expect for you
to have too much experience. But if they know that you're a good person and kind of know
who you are, where you come from, that's a good start. Being CPR, first-aid certified
is another start, as well. Look into maybe doing a couple of child care classes. Maybe
some training. If you can't afford it, I think there are a lot of places in your community
that you can look up to see if they have any kind of, you know, free training, things like
that. So, look around. I think maybe elementary schools around the neighborhood would probably
have some good information on maybe some free child care courses. They may be for parents,
but, considering that you'd become a nanny, you would be like, you know, the next best
thing to a parent. You'd be a mentor type, so. Definitely just kind of look into family
and friends. Spread the word around. Do some little background knowledge. Kind of get some
basics down of, you know, what to do with kids. Activities, how to enhance their development,
things like that. So just kind of do some research, look into it, and get CPR and first-aid
certified.
