Right wing extremism
The Night of Broken Glass, genocide, the Third Reich, Hitler, swastika, sun cross, uniforms, flags, banners...
threats from a not so distant past.
Few have experienced any of this personally. But this is an event in the history of mankind that we must never forget.
Because they gather again and again, inspired by history: immigration-hostile, nationalist and racist groups,
and violent right wing extremist groups spring forth. Right wing extremism has a strong position in Europe today.
In Norway it has however reached a trough. But this has not always been the case.
Right wing extremism in Norway can be said to have gone through four major waves.
In 1975 “Nasjonal Ungdomsfylking” becomes National Front. This is the beginning of the first wave.
Young racists and nationalists gather for the first time after the Second World War.
This results in the bomb attacks against the parade on May 1st and the Nor mosque, and also the Hadeland murders.
The second wave is characterized by demonstrations and marches against immigration with Arne Myrdal as leading figure and speaker.
Non-violent political organizations wanting to fight immigration by legal means are established, but the street battles in
Brummundal and in Southern Norway attract most attention. Several asylum centres are attacked.
Militant groups, uniforms, violence, weapons, Nazi and ideological radicalisation characterize the third wave.
Important figures from the first wave turn up in Boot Boys and Viking. There are confrontations between right wing and left wing extremists,
and some form the so-called Einsatz-group to plan attacks against politicians.
The members of the group are pulled in by the police, and the environment collapses.
The *** of Benjamin Hermansen, Blood and Honour, Vigrid and the Norwegian Resistance Movement provoke wave number four.
International demonstrations and cooperation with Swedish right wing extremists characterise this period
and several serious violent acts are committed.
An open preventive action is implemented for the first time, and the environments disintegrate once again.
PST is responsible for preventing another wave from coming.
