Thank you for continuing on Noti Mujer and now
we invite you to continue “In Family”
Well my friends... the "Om" is not a twitter but may
well prove essential sound of your unborn life.
Veronica Vidal expert in yoga is already in our studio here
in Miami to talk about the benefits of this discipline
when practiced during pregnancy. Welcome!
Thank you Mercedes.
It seems very interesting to practice yoga while pregnant
how does this affect the fetus?
Well, yoga is one of the best practices to address the
challenges that are rigged with pregnancy, birth, and
postpartum. So at least, when starting yoga, it is
important to ask your doctor first, who will make all the
necessary examinations before starting an exercise
program, and then it is important to find a yoga practice
designed for “prenatal yoga” because many of the
traditional postures must be modified.
And what are precisely the postures more
favorable to a pregnant woman?
Well. Glad you asked that… thanks Mercedes.
The most favorable postures are the ones that open
all the pelvic floor especially ...
(we will see footage that we previously shot)
…especially postures that contract and stretch
the pelvic floor in preparation for the birth canal.
Now ... Tell us also, for the people who have never
practiced yoga before and now they are pregnant…
Is it the same? Is it advisable to start with
this routine even at this point?
Of course, yes. Again after the doctor’s permission, is
very important that the mother begins immediately as no
previous experience is required.
The mother incorporates to the practice little by little,
and depending on the trimester she is in, the practice.
Each trimester is of course different, and different
precautions must be taken, for example the first trimester is
very vulnerable because that is when the embryo
is strengthening in the uterus, so it is very vulnerable even
if the mother does not feel practically anything, but nausea,
or nervousness, swelling, tiredness but not really feel much than that.
Generally people do the mistake of continuing running,
practicing hard sports, and are advised to avoid it.
The second trimester is when the mother feels the strongest,
the baby is now entrenched, so it is then when strengthening
the muscles and increasing body resistance is advised.
And aren’t contractions somehow precipitated by this?
Because I remember when I was pregnant, I was advised
to not bend down, to not dance, to not make strong movements,
so this contradicts what they told to me
or was that advice they gave me wrong?
Let's say that from the point of view of yoga…
(We cannot say that the advice you got was wrong)
…but from the point of view of yoga it is advisable that women
stay as much active as possible , in fact is advisable,
(of course if there aren’t any complications during pregnancy),
that women work the entire body, to open the legs, to stretch forward,
to stretch backwards, to manipulate the spine in its four directions,
laterals of torsion… to move as much as possible to stimulate
the blood circulation, and also it is very important…
the yoga practitioner exercises a big space on the internal body…
Veronica tell us, what’s your advice to mothers, or future mothers
that don’t have time to assist to these classes. Is there also
a possibility to practice it with the help of videos?
Do you advice this so they can practice alone at home?
Well, again if the doctor has given the OK then, yes…
there are some videos that are determined specifically for prenatal yoga
where it is experienced, again first trimester, second trimester and third…
the third trimester, (which I wanted to finish commenting about before),
is very, very important because that’s when the mother has to slow down
with the activities,
work on walking more, work with the breath and relaxation process
because this what will help her to have
an easier and less painful birth labor job…
Very good Veronica, many thanks for being again with us
we enjoy having you on Noti Mujer, please come back
and Thank you.
Thanks! Thank you very much.
