Wait, I want to see...
4. The Dream
In the desert
beyond the desert,
in the rocky part of deserts,
where solitude is harder than in the sands
and the soul sadder than among palm trees,
there was a man
who wanted a god,
because there was no god
for the men who lived in those deserts or in that soul.
His thirst and hunger for a god
were greater than the thirst for water,
greater than hunger for those fruits
which are all water and sweetness
and for which children reach out their eyes and hands.
This man was called John,
since in my dream he’s called John.
It’s a name found among the Hebrews,
but fortunately none of their prophets or rabbis ever used it.
This man proclaimed in the deserts
the coming of the god he wanted,
and he proclaimed it because he wanted it
and not because it had to be.
But he proclaimed it so strongly
that it must surely have been heard by the god he was creating.
And the god would come in his time,
since for the dreamer there is no time,
nor will his soul fail to find its destiny.
I want, with all my dreaming,
for this dream to be true.
I want it to be true in the future,
as other dreams are true in the past.
