It’s 2015 now and I think my first time here was around 2004.
So that’s pretty much my entire professional career.
Hey, are you alright?
Of course!
Am I the first one here?
Yeah.
The very first.
Our second year here, we came third and that started a good trend.
We’ve always enjoyed coming back and playing here.
On behalf of the German Volleyball Association,
I’d like to first of all congratulate you all for making it this far.
So first of all, applaud yourselves.
We’ve been preparing for Center Court for a while.
Thankfully this time it worked, we’re getting to play on the nice Center Court.
Lots of spectators come no matter the weather.
They sit down and watch us play beach volleyball to support us.
It gives you goosebumps.
By now, I’ve been on tour for so long and know so many teams on the German tour.
It’s slightly harder when you’ve hardly played the whole season.
But it’s nice to watch a set or even a match when you’ve got time.
You can even pick up one or two things
from others that you can integrate into the whole picture.
I think experience also makes a big difference.
You don’t know how the ball will come.
You just go for it, and if you don’t get the ball, then it didn’t work out that time.
But you will return the ball at some point.
There are some games where my opponent sends me running around the court.
You always need to think of new things,
but somehow you can never think of them when you’re nervous.
But you’ve also got a partner on your side,
who from time to time can give you tips or has good ideas.
Together, we’re a really great team.
We adapt to our opponents.
When they’re a step ahead, we try to catch up or to react.
That’s why I love this sport.
There’s so much room for tactics and strategy.
When the day comes to an end and you have some free time, you feel relaxed and
know that it’s working out for you, then you happily accept a few interviews.
After matches, there will be two, three, four journalists asking questions.
They start with two, three questions, but you then realize you can’t
get out of the questions or answers.
It’s nice to answer interview questions. It just takes time to get away from the court.
There are people there you haven’t seen for a whole year that you like talking to.
It’s always only around two minutes with every person, but, by the end,
it’s about an hour until you leave.
You go home, drop your stuff, and come down. Think of something else, something nice.
Enjoy time with friends. It’s always pleasant alternating between things.
Don’t you want to ask if we won or not?
I’ve already seen the result: you won!
What a fan!
We get on really well, and the three of us share a cool apartment.
His girlfriend is a bit weird though, she’s got something wrong with her.
Congratulations Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst.
I’d never want to trade my job for anything else.
It’s definitely my dream job.
I can say it as many times as I want, even after ten years.
Sure, there are moments when I can’t be bothered with traveling anymore
or want to be at home, you know.
But overall, I’m really happy I’ve come
this far and achieved all this.
All this fun and joy.
And all the people supporting me.
I’m not looking forward to the day when it’ll suddenly be over.
