Hi, I'm Kenley Neufeld and I'm the library director here at SBCC.
What are the benefits of meditation? Well, some of the benefits of meditating
include being a little bit more focused, being a little bit more calm, to be able to
be aware of your body and be aware of your thinking. How does one meditate? Well, meditation can take many different forms.
In fact we can meditate by having a conversation
by being totally aware of the conversation that were having. So you can have meditation while you're walking, while you're talking
on the phone, while you're working on your computer, or while you're driving your car.
How long have you been meditating? I've been meditating for about 15 years.
How often do you meditate? Every day. Have you seen a change in your stress level and mindfulness?
It's just little bit easier to remain calm and
to remain present with the conversations or the interactions I have with people, or if I'm driving when I'm driving. When
and where do you hold your meditation sessions? Well we have meditation here on campus on
Tuesdays at 11:15. We meet here in this office and I just set up some chairs and we usually
have 5 or 6 people but we can fit more. It’s a nice sized room. Why should students join
in your meditation sessions? Well for the reasons I mentioned earlier, there’s some
benefit to bringing attention to your body and mind, to allow you to reduce stress and
to remain calm. I think a lot of things students encounter during school can be stressful.
So this can help a student bring more awareness to bring more awareness to that relationship
with their body and their mind and to allow them to be more focused on an activity when
their working on it.
