Hello, my name is Sibcoe, welcome to another episode of Power Up, the series where we get
you ready to own face in your game of choice. Today we are looking at the new patch for
the game in the background, Diablo 3, from Blizzard Entertainment, currently on patch
1.0.7.
I thought it would be fun to start of the new patch with a new build for the buffed
Monk class. So let's get into our power up session and see we do the "Buddie, Bell, Baller
Build."
This is very much a new Monk build, so if you just hit 60 or are leveling up a Monk
for the first time, this will work wonders for you. It can also be adapted to a higher
gear level with a few changes.
First off let's talk about the primary skills on your left and right mouse buttons. You
will have Fists of Thunder with Thunderclap rune, which I still feel is the best spirit
generator, giving fast attacks, mobility, and burst AOE. On your right mouse you will
have a core of the build, Wave of Light, with Wall of Light. This skill was recently buffed
to insance amounts, and represents one of the best moves in skill changes that the Diablo
3 team have made recently. Where Fists of Thunder is your basic low density trash clear,
this will be your large pack clear and elite pack killer.
Next up you will need your buddy, the Mystic Ally. This is a pretty under utilized skill,
and you will use it with Air Ally. If you have good gear and plenty of spirit regen,
this is where you can swap the ally out for another type or another skill if you prefer,
such as seven sided strike. The Air Ally adds some decent DPS and also, buffs your spirit
regen periodically.
With your buddy at your side, you now want a little more constant offense, so grab Sweeping
Wind and Master of the Wind Rune. This will give you a constant trash clear buff and at
the right gear level will kill easier monsters just by running past them.
Next up you should have a little defense, since this is focused on new Monks. For that
we will grab Serenity, with Peaceful Repose, which will give you a temporary shield buff
for clutch situations, and hit you with a small heal. The heal becomes less useful as
you go on, and could arguably be swapped out for something else if you don't need or want
it. It is really best saved for a quick top off heal or a clutch death avoidance heal
when you potions are on cool down.
You want to round out your build with a Mantra of course, and while you can choose any Mantra
you like, I find Retirbution to be a nice pick here, with Against All Odds. This will
give you some mitigation based Spirit regen as you reflect and helps keep you topped off.
For passives I recommend Chant of Resonance for the passive Spirit regen, and the longer
buff duration. I also like to have Exalted Soul for the 100 extra Spirit and Spirit regen,
which works well with Wave of Light. Finally, round out your passives with The Guardian's
Path if you are using a 2Hand weapon, like Skorn, or any other passive of your choice
if you are dual wielding.
No build would be complete without some weapons to beat your foes down with, and my preference
is for a Skorn with Dex. My skorn cost almost nothing and has good base damage, and over
500 Dex, this really helps get your DPS to that 60k number, which is great for a new
Monk, and can be worked on as you progress. Higher end weapons would include a nice Monk
set item, or Dex Echoing Fury.
Stats are fairly base line, and you can see here they are easily achievable for a new
Monk. The run speed at 24% might be hard to get at first, but a cheap Lacunis will work
for the short term until your upgrade more.
Overall, this is a fun build to run with, and utilizes the Mystic buddy, which I like
to have around. It is versatile as you level and grow in power, and forgiving on gear and
playstyle. As you gain power and items you will find more powerful builds to clear with,
but this will set you on the path to Monk legend.
Focus on MP0 - MP1 for this build, and farm up some nice legendary items to use and sell
as you grow in paragon. Once you can craft some of the new recipes you will find yourself
at the high end of the Monk pool, and be wrecking face with the best of them.
By the power of Y'Tar I send you out to slay demons and find phat loots. This has been
Sibcoe with another Power Up, if you enjoyed the show give it a like, and don't forget
to subscribe. Until next time, I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes from a
Dylan Thomas poem - "don't go gentle into that good night - rage, rage, against the
dying of the light...Cheers 0/
