Hi I am Dr. Jenn Berman for PETA. I love being a vegan because I know that I
am not contributing to the pain and suffering of animals on a day-to-day basis at least
as best as I can. I feel incredibly healthy, I had never even
thought about giving up dairy having been a vegetarian for so long, but then when I
read about all of the reasons healthwise why we shouldnt be eating dairy, it was pretty
much a no-brainer and to know that I am living a life that doesnt contribute to pain and
suffering, and will help me live longer and spent more time with my kids and I feel great.
It was an easy choice. For me as a parent being a vegan and raising
vegan children is its a philosophy it is not just what we choose to eat and dont
eat. Since my children were very young I have always
told them the truth about where meat comes from, where dairy comes from, where leather
comes from, I have always told them the truth. A lot of parents try to protect their kids
from the truth, because I have raised them understating the pain and suffering of animals,
they also understand the pain and suffering of people.
They are incredibly sensitive intuitive kids. I think it is so important for children to
be activists, and for them to understand that no matter how small they are they can make
a difference, they can make an impact in the world.
To me that is a parenting philosophy it is a vegan philosophy but it is also a parenting
philosophy, and I think that kids who have a sense that they can make a difference in
the world are kids that are far less likely to turn to drugs, they are less likely to
act out in different ways because they have a sense of self-efficacy, which is really
related to self-esteem. When kids know they make the right choice
on their own. When they have the right information they
can do it, and that is the next generation that is our future in terms of this Earth,
in terms of the health of the planet, in terms of the health of future generations, in the
terms of the consciousness of future generations, and to me that is one of the greatest things
we can do as parents. For more information on how to help animals
