Amateur footage has been released showing the devastating aftermath of barrel bombs
that hit a district of Aleppo.
Residents can be seen going through destruction and rubble, pulling out the body of at least
one dead child.
Despairing residents can be seen frantically searching for survivors, although it is mainly
dead bodies which are recovered.
The footage was uploaded to a social media website, but the contents have not been independently verified.
A second video appears to show a nearby street with market stalls and a red bus acting as
a makeshift barrier.
Barrel bombs, which are usually dropped from helicopters, are a particularly indiscriminate
weapon that often kill dozens at a time. Activists say they are being used to push people from
rebel-held areas into state-controlled parts of the northern city.
Like many areas in Syria, Aleppo is divided between rebel and Assad forces in a stalemate
that has lasted over a year, killing hundreds of civilians.
