The show typically ends around the first of January for the Holiday Show.
so right after that, we strike the Gardenland Express exhibit
clean the floor
completely start over from scratch put down a new chalk line and a new floor plan
and build the landscape up from that
so this particular year I think we have twenty working days to flip it
It's a short turn around time
it takes a lot of people
horticulture staff
and volunteers both
to do the building structures haul the plants from our permanent collections in the greenhouses
set up all the framework
to be ready to open for our members premier
This particular year's theme
is on Madagascar
because we're trying to
focus on the fact that we've had a
presence in Madagascar for twenty five years
Orchid shows at the Botanical Garden have been going on for over seventy five years
it's hard to believe isn't it
thematic temporary installations
that are temporary landscape displays that highlight an exhibit from our permanent orchid collection
so we have around seven thousand plants
in our collection but in the show itself
a visitor will get to see
four to five hundred at a time
Our annual Orchid Show is the only time a visitor will be able to see
such a large amount of our permanent collection on display at one time
we have a few scattered throughout the grounds
throughout the year
being in the Bowmont Room
or over in the Climatron
some places like that, in the tropical rainforest in the Climatron but this is the only time a visitor can see
large numbers displayed at once
