This is a 60-second Army Now from Soldiers Radio and Television.
I'm Sergeant Ashleigh Torres.
There are two sides to deployed soldiers.
Sergeant Justin Puetz introduces us to Lieutenant Knapp.
Lieutenant Knapp talks to a local leader in the village of Donga, Afghanistan.
After the meeting, his platoon is in a firefight with anti-Afghanistan forces.
[gunfire] 2-3 Alpha, this is 2-6.
One minute you're kind of dealing with these people in an educated manner,
and then one minute you've got to flip modes and start being a ground commander.
Here in Afghanistan the soldiers of Baker Company, 212 Infantry Regiment,
must be diplomats and warriors--part negotiator...
[man speaking Pashto]
...part soldier.
You've got to have that mindset of wearing two hats at all times.
At one minute you're dealing with the local nationals
and at the flip side you've also got to be that warrior leader.
That's a 60-second Army Now from Soldiers Radio and Television, Washington.
