Funding for R and D in college settings
is a precious resource.
Not only does the project have to be
accountable for everything that is
expensed to ensure project completion,
but the budget items also have to match up.
For example, if X dollars were planned
for purchasing materials, you can't
"borrow" from the budget for student
researchers, or the project comes up
short, one way or the other.
For the diabetic-friendly
recipes project, careful budgeting and
accountability are also critical, given
the range of projects, including this one,
that the college's Office of Applied
Research and Innovation is funding through its
federal grant from the NSERC-CCI program.
Additional funding for the project from
third-party sources may be possible and
also challenging to acquire; for example,
through sponsorship funding from a
reputable food company's marketing budget.
