Hi, my name is Kevin Shannon and I am the Speaker of the Senate for the Northern Iowa
Student Government. I’ve recorded this video to show you where to go to vote in this year’s
NISG General Election. It’ll just take a couple of minutes.
Let’s start from the UNI home page. Click MyUNIverse and login. After logging in, click
the Life at UNI tab.
Look for the box that says Voting and Surveys. Mine is in the top right hand corner of the
page. When your ballot is ready, click the arrow to the right of the ballot name to get
started. Your ballot won't be available until the polls open Tuesday morning at 6:00 AM,
so I'll give you a sneak peek at my ballot.
Each ballot is customized. Because I live off-campus, my ballot will let me vote for
the off-campus senators. Your ballot may have different senate seats.
Here's the ballot. At the top of the ballot, you'll see some instructions. Be sure to read
these before you start. The first group of candidates are the presidential and vice presidential
candidates. Choose one group ticket or choose the write-in box and write in the names of
the candidates. To show you how it works, I'll write in the President and Provost. They
are not eligible to win the election because they are not current students.
The next candidates are running for the University At-Large seats. There are five seats [open]
and three students on the ballot. Choose up to five by combining the write-ins with the
students on the ballot.
If there is no candidate for a particular seat, as is in the case with the College of
Natural Sciences and Humanities and Fine Arts, you may write in the name of a student who
you think would represent the college well.
My ballot also has the off-campus senate seats, as I mentioned earlier. Follow the same steps
as the University At-Large seats for the Off-Campus seats. You may vote for up to 18 people.
Finally, there are two constitutional ammendments. To find out more information about these,
go to the NISG home page at www.uni.edu/nisg.
Lastly, you are ready to submit your ballot. Click the next button and click this button,
submit my answers to finalize your ballot. Once you receive the thank you page, you know
your ballot has been successfully submitted. If you do not click that second button, your
ballot will not be counted.
Okay! We're done! Wasn't that easy?! If you have a second major and would like to vote
in that election also, you may stop by the NISG office between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM on
Tuesday and Wednesday to submit an absentee ballot like this one on the screen. If you
have any issues with the ballot system, contact NISG by e-mail at nisg@uni.edu or by calling
us at 319 273 2650. Results will be announced in Maucker Union after all the ballots have
been counted. //Captioned by Kevin Shannon
