Alright guys. So I just pulled 13 iron out of this furnace. Pulling ten out of this one.
That gives us twenty-three.
I think we needed twenty-four, but it was for a good cause. We've got three buckets
now.
I feel kind of silly, but it was for a good cause.
Let me show you what we're going to do here.
We're going to make an infinite water source.
It's kind of cool.
You dig out a three by one area. This will also work with a two by two area, but I prefer
the three by one.
You take your water buckets, you put one in one side, skip over the middle, and put the
other in the other side.
... and it makes still water.
Now if you take this end up, it's flowing again.
If you take this end up, it's flowing again.
But if you take from the middle, the sides replenish it.
You have an infinite water source, so long as you only take from the middle.
And that is beautiful. I really enjoy that.
I'm going to go find more iron.
I've got to find a little more iron. I want to make a whole armor set out of iron.
So let's keep on digging down the original path, and see what we find.
If you haven't seen the previous episodes, please go back and watch, so you don't miss
any of the fun.
Last time, we found some iron, we explored a ravine a wee bit, and that was about it...
Ha ha.
Pardon my nerdy laugh there. We just found more diamond!
I keep expecting iron, and I keep finding diamond. I think it's fate.
I'm going to have to make one of my pieces of armor out of diamond.
The Minecraft gods have made it so.
So we're going to do that, and we're going to stop this silly search for iron.
We're going to go on an adventure.
We've got this awesome ravine that we have to explore.
We explored another part of it, but it was more of just, like a micro-cave.
This next one should be big.
OK. So we've got water.
That allows us to basically extinguish lava, and turn it into obsidian.
One of the main uses of lava in the game is to get obsidian.
Actually I don't have to walk back there, I have a crafting table by the ravine.
Now the ravine that we're interested in is up.
We're going to make a helmet.
Diamond helmet.
We're going to make the chestpiece out of iron.
We're going to make the leggings out of iron.
And we're going to make the boots out of iron.
So to put your armor on, you tap "E" to open your inventory.
You can either drag it on over, or you can hold "Shift" and click on it, and it goes
to the proper spot.
That's so awesome. That is really awesome.
That's what we look like with our gear there, and our diamond sword.
OK, so we've got a ton of stuff, but not so much that I'm worried we'll need to drop things
off before we explore.
So I want to mark this very, very clearly.
"This is where our exit is." This way we can't miss it.
It's so tall. It's really kind of a scary thing there. Is it going to close up on us?
Is this crack in the Earth going to end?
It does.
OK this side actually didn't yield much.
There's some iron.
If we'd only stepped inside a little further...
Alright. Let's go through and light it all up.
We're going to light everything up before we come back, or at least a lot of it.
Oh there's some diamond! We're rich, dudes.
Oh! Creeper. Let's see what this diamond sword can do.
He flew back not because of the diamond sword, but because I ran and charged him.
He died in only two hits because of the diamond sword, though!
So creepers drop gunpowder.
Gunpowder is useful because you can make TNT. TNT is used for... well, mainly for goofing
off.
But you can use it to excavate.
You can also use gunpowder for fireworks.
TNT can be used to make TNT cannons, which will launch you, or another thing, fairly
far.
OK, got some lava.
Now, this particular lava is not a pool. It's flowing, as you can see.
The only source block is probably right up there, so it won't be very useful for obsidian.
I'm just going to make us a little safety wall around it.
You don't want to be walking near lava without a wall, because a skeleton could just pluck
an arrow at you and knock you into the lava.
With all the stuff we're carrying, that would be the end of the world. Not literally, but...
Who knows?
OK so that's the end of the ravine.
This particular ravine is just a crevice in the center of the Earth.
It doesn't lead anywhere, but it's still friggin sweet.
Remember I was telling you earlier, that caving is a great way to get ore without a lot of
digging.
Look at this. It's just right here on the surface.
Now I've got to light up the ledges here, or else monsters could spawn there when I'm
not looking.
Ooooo OK. This is good.
This is what I was talking about when it comes to making obsidian. Watch this.
You drop the water. The water spreads. Pick the water back up.
All of the source blocks of lava that were hit by flowing water turned to obsidian.
Obsidian is necessary for a few things, one of them being the enchanting table I was telling
you about.
The enchanting table is going to be essential to us to keeping our gear top notch.
...taking our sword and turning it into a sword that can knock monsters flying back.
...taking our armor and giving us fire protection. That's what the enchanting table does for
us.
So we're going to collect some of this.
Again, use a diamond pick on obsidian. It still takes a long time even with diamond,
but at least you get to collect the item.
This is actually turning out differently than I expected. I expected lava under this first
layer.
I was expecting more of a lake, instead of this... pool.
Yes. OK. It's a lake.
Look at this.
You put the water there. It's flowing there, right? It's pushing this way.
And then you mine a piece of obsidian. So I'm going to mine this obsidian.
Ahhh. See?
Lava underneath, but the water hit it before I did.
Now, you've got to be careful with this. I think the water only flows out about 9 spaces, so you should be
cautious to make sure it preceeds you.
I would check it out. Put the water down somewhere where it won't kill you, and count.
I got six of those. Let's get a few more.
I might fastforward this. It's kind of boring to watch someone clicking on obsidian for
a long period of time.
OK so we are done with the obsidian mining for now.
We're going to do two things with the obsidian. We're going to make an enchanting table.
It's going to help us again to make all of our weapons and armor.
Also of course, our tools. Like our pickaxe.
We can make our pickaxe, for example, so that every time we find diamonds, we can have a
chance of getting extra diamonds out of it.
We're going to leave that diamond there, and we're going to come back someday with a pickaxe
that has fortune enchant on it.
That allows you to get more than one thing out of a block.
Instead of these four, we might get eight or nine diamond by mining them.
So let's put some torches here so we can clearly see what it is we're illuminating.
We're going to come back for that once we have amazing enchantments.
Gold is used for powered railway tracks, and also for breeding horses.
OK what's our next step? Got all the cool armor. Got the cool tools.
Still have stone axe and shovel... we should fix that.
Oh wow, gosh.
I'm not going to make the axe yet.
I was talking about grabbing lava.
We take an empty bucket.
We just pick up lava.
You've got to be careful right clicking after you've picked up lava.
You don't want to drop lava right at your feet. Usually switch to a tool for opening
doors.
We're going to make a disposal unit right here.
This disposal unit is where we put things that we don't want.
We no longer need our stone shovel, so I'm going to drop that in here.
We're going to hold onto the stone axe for now, it might be useful later.
But the wooden sword and iron pickaxe, we've replaced with diamond tools.
You hit the "Q" key to throw things from your hotbar.
Be careful not to hit the Q key by accident, you could lose something you want to keep.
Alright. OK. Well I think that's going to wrap the episode actually.
Let's take a look at this. We've got a ton of diamond.
We've got our diamond hat, we've got all our armor made.
We've got awesome weapons and tools for the most part.
We explored the ravine, we got some obsidian, so we're going to learn about enchanting tables
soon.
I'm going to look at making an enchanting table in the next couple episodes, but it's
going to take a number of books and things.
So it'll be a little bit down the road.
All together we're doing really well.
I'm going to say we're done with branch mining for now.
Next episode we're going to take this stuff, we're going up above, and we're going to start
terraforming our hill.
We're going to start making that world above into someplace we can live without fearing
the night.
