We're in industrial training, we're in the heavy end of training if you like.
We do predominantly mechanical plant training. Well of course we're a, as a co-operative
predominantly most of the people that work in the company are shareholders in the
company and own a part of the company. Retiring owners decided that through ill health
and retirement they we're going to, they were going to sell the company.
They'd rumored for some time before this that they might sell it to the staff,
we have them to thank for approaching the Wales Co-op really,
finding out all about it, lo and behold just a few months later we found we were in
charge of our own business and our own destinies. It's all for the benefits of whether it's
for yourself basically I mean obviously you're your own boss sort
of thing, yes, as I say, we control our own destiny.
I instruct probably LGVs, ADR, lift trunks, basically most courses we do here.
Some courses we have fifteen people in, twelve people in, ten
and a course for lift trunks we'll have three so it could be quite a few.
I'm at DLT for the LT training so I can learn a fork lift truck,
my current employers sent me here today so I can help out at work.
I've initially done my training with DLT as a lift truck instructor.
How I came in contact with DLT was that a friend recommended that I used DLT for what
I wanted to do and then I contacted Careers Wales who put
me in touch with React then and they've funded me to do
lift truck instructor plus manual handling instructor too.
The alternatives it's given me is that I can now train counterbalance reach truck,
telehandler, and I can drive the telehandler on a construction site as well,
I was self employed as well, so it was a great opportunity.
I think the work the Wales Co-op Centre do has been wonderful, as I said you get
the whole package, you get guided through the whole thing,
you pretty well get told the good things and the bad things.
And just the fact that you're coming to work every morning and you
know you're doing it for yourselves, and not sombody else is a massive thing,
I really wouldn't hesitate. Put it this way, if the Wales Co-op say you can do it then
I'm sure you can do it. Having kept it level where we wanted it we're
now starting to expand it I think we need to look at expanding it just a little
more and I would like to become one of the bigger providers in Wales certainly,
and I think that's quite achievable actually.
